When I arrived in Kiskunlachaza for the second big race of the year, I literally started walking up and down the train to check out the cars there. But it took a little while to settle on vehicle number two: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Super Pro ET. Dragster. It instantly looks like it could be a car hero in any movie, and I’m sure Toretto would love to get his hands on one of these. Not only is it beautiful, but it is very fast. And it’s not just the fast 10-second kind: this thing can run the quarter mile (402 meters) in 8.17 seconds with a top speed of 172 mph (278 kph).

I learned that the team is from Switzerland and that Mike Bruckmüller drove this beast 1/4 mile. After a quick chat, he agreed to bring the car from the paddock to a place we found at the old airport. The Camaro may not be a fighter jet, but it feels right at home in front of a private hangar. While the guys were shooting in, I started chatting about his racing history with Mike.
My father was naturally allergic, and I was curious to know what his passion was:
“I think I was about eight years old when my father took me to a retreat. There was a race near Basel (Switzerland) with many athletes. That’s how my interest in the game began. My father got sick from the race. . After that, I attended various festivals over the years.”
At first Mike intended to race a Pontiac Trans Am, which had already been modified but had no engine. But it was not built to FIA regulations, so he was advised to abandon the project in search of something that complied with official regulations.

“The friend who recommended me put me in touch with the previous owner of the Camaro because he wanted to sell the vehicle.”

Mike made his first official racing debut in 2009 at one of the biggest events in Europe: at the Hockenheimring in Germany.
“Looking back, it was foolish of a teenager to register for this event, but we wanted to race. We packed up the Camaro and went to Hockenheim, and I know how to drive a car like that.”

“We only use the best quality parts, and I always give priority to the Pro Modified cars in terms of the technology or the parts they use. Because we do a lot of modifications and rebuild the engine frequently, we just need some spare parts during the season. Most of the engine parts come from Sonny’s Racing;

Mike managed a total of seven runs at Kiskunlachaza, the fastest of which was an 8.21 second pass with a trap speed of 164 mph (264 kph). That adds up to about a minute of driving over the entire weekend! Given the nature of the game, we’re talking about 60 seconds of intense action.
“What happened in Kiskunlachaza was good; the music was good. We have visited England in Santa Pod many times, and the surface is not good there. We were surprised by the well-organized system. We have been in Italy for a month one behind and We can’t do a good run there, we came to Hungary especially to test the new suspension;
“We completed seven races and were very satisfied with the Camaro and the performance of the team. We will definitely return to this event in the future. Stopping a red car is very difficult and challenging to adjust. I had time in Hungary. , which we don’t have in the FIA, to test all the settings in my spare time.”

It feels to me that maybe racing has started to slow down in recent years, but seriously, I haven’t been to such a big event in almost a decade now. So I want to know where he stands on the subject, so I asked him if he thinks that the sport is declining in popularity:
“Spectators can sit close to the teams and are always welcome. Unfortunately, there are not many opportunities to organize a race in Europe without interruption. Santa Pod Raceway is a permanent track, and you can see from viewers on the spot and from the animation that many people love this sport and more.”
