MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaro joins Team Mips and becomes the first MotoGP™ rider to use the Mips® safety system
Mips, the world leader in helmet safety, is proud to announce its newest member to Team Mips: Aleix Espargaro, factory rider for Aprilia Racing in MotoGP™, the world’s premier motorcycle racing class.
A regular in the MotoGP paddock since 2009, Aleix is an extremely experienced rider with a number of podiums and pole positions to his credit.
Aleix Espargaro comments: “I am very proud to be the first MotoGP rider to use the Mips safety system with my Kabuto helmet. Since I use the Mips system, I haven’t noticed any difference in helmet comfort, but personally I feel safer in MotoGP. As you all know, Mips systems have been used in cycling for years, and from now on I also use the Mips system in the world’s leading motorcycle championships, and I’m happy to help by sharing my experience. In my opinion, the introduction of Mips will help our sport focus much needed attention on helmet safety. “

In the 2023 season, Aleix will wear Kabuto’s F17 Racing Mips helmet – the first MotoGP ™ helmet equipped with the Mips® safety system in the form of the comfortable Mips Integra TX helmet. The Mips Integra TX helmet liner is the first solution of its kind from Mips with a patented low friction layer integrated within the liner itself.
Mips are already widely adopted in other professional bike sports such as motocross and cycling, both of which many MotoGP riders are actively involved in. Entering MotoGP and adding Alex to Team Mips is an important moment for Mips in their quest to raise awareness of helmet safety and their mission to lead the world to safer helmets.
Max Strandwitz, CEO of Mips, comments: “The MotoGP class by its very nature pushes anyone and anything that comes into contact with it, which is part of the reason why it is known worldwide as the pinnacle of track racing. Acknowledgment on the global Mips safety system platform, and with Alex as an advocate, is perfectly aligned with our mission to lead the world to safer helmets.”
