Track days can be some of the most fun you can have with your motorcycle. Push your bike beyond what the normal road allows and test your skills and limits in a safe environment. If you haven’t done a track the day before, it can be a little confusing to know where to start, so here’s everything you can expect from a motorcycle track day.
There will normally be three main groups at a motorcycle track day (unless you are attending a special track day), these are: Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. You can choose which of these to enter and it’s best to choose the group that best suits your skills – if it’s your first time, then Novice might be the best option for you.
You will run the track in a group of up to 40 riders of similar ability, each group will get about 20 minutes to play before being called on by the next group to leave.
How To Build A Racing Bike: Tips On Using Spare Parts
You’re unlikely to forget your bike if you’re headed to a track day, but there are plenty of extras that can help make the day easier and more fun and enjoyable.
Make sure you have a one-piece or two-piece skin suit – these are a must for safety reasons. We have many one piece leather cycling suits available at great prices! You’ll also likely need your driving license or ACU so the organizers can make sure you’re legally allowed to take to the track!
For comfort, consider bringing a folding camping chair to rest between sessions – it’s going to be a long day!
Being there for most of the day, sustenance will be something you need to consider. It can be tiring to go out on the track, so eating less and often is better than packing three square meals a day. There is likely to be a cafe or restaurant on site, but these can be expensive so taking your own food and water is a good idea.

Your bike will be working beyond its normal mileage so it’s important to get it back on track to make sure it can handle the extra stress. Check that the water is filled and in good condition, check the bearings, bushings and seals and correct any suspension issues.
Brakes and tires are the next thing you should check they are in good condition. Are the brake pads in good condition? Do the caliper pistons move freely? As for tires, you don’t have to get a brand new one – although sport/track tires can improve your experience, but don’t stray too far from the edge rubber.
There are great tracks from up and down the UK so there will be a track near you, but sometimes traveling a little further can give you the best experience. There are also a few different companies that you can partner with on your motorcycle track day.
No Limits, MSV, James Whitham and California Superbike School are some of the big names operating across the UK. Check out this comprehensive guide to who’s running on track days and where.
